Lacework Evening Gloves

Those of you who have read my Short Gloves Project will know something of how delicate crochet lace gloves came into my awareness a couple of years ago. Briefly put, it began as a commission enquiry and spiralled into a fascination with the tailored item of clothing, both the techniques and the history. Months after the commission was complete, I noticed a TV show I was thoroughly enjoying (Peaky Blinders) used 2 crochet short glove pairs in a series finale as everyone was dressing up for Derby day.
The gloves worn by one of the characters were then seen again a couple of series later, being played with by the character's daughter as she sat in soil and mud. The contrast of placement was so stark that my interest got reignited and I started work on a pair of lace gloves for myself, delicate like the day ones but with a consistent lace stitch that went long past the elbow in the more traditional satin evening style. I think they strike a good balance between creation and recreation!
